BBC to air more religious programming

The BBC has pledged to “raise our game” on religion by increasing the portrayal of all faiths in mainstream shows. The corporation said it would “enhance” the representation of religion on TV and radio dramas and documentaries. It said it would also create a new global religious affairs team, headed by a religion editor, in BBC News.

The Conference on Interreligious Dialogue in South and Southeast Asia organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Bangkok, Thailand, from 18 to 20 December 2017 issued the Bangkok Joint Statement that calls for boosting local, national and regional collaboration on interfaith coexistence.

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, said that the OIC is committed to promoting interfaith dialogue, peace building and conflict resolution, which are priority issues of the OIC Program of Action 2025 and integral components for fostering better understanding between peoples and cultures in promoting sustainable development and encouraging positive relationships between nations.

OIC -KAICIID Conference on Interreligious Dialogue tackles Muslim-Buddhist relations in South and South-East Asia


In order to promote better understanding, cooperation and partnership between faith communities across South and South-East Asia, a meeting of religious and civil society leaders, academics, policy makers and intellectuals from Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Malaysia was conducted in Bangkok, Thailand, 18-20 December 2017 to discuss how religious and cultural coexistence can be fostered.

Azerbaijan an irreplaceable country in interreligious dialogue

Azerbaijan is turning into an irreplaceable country in the interreligious, intercultural dialogue, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. President Aliyev made the remarks at an international conference titled “2017 – Year of Islamic Solidarity: Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue” at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku Dec. 21. Azerbaijani people are very committed to their national and spiritual roots.

Malaysia: Inter-faith group wants end to race, religion in politics

PETALING JAYA: The country’s main inter-religious body has called for an end to the use of race and religion in politics. Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) said this in response to comments attributed to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang on Malay-Muslims forming the core of the cabinet.

Following a contentious discussion, the General Assembly adopted two draft resolutions, on the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, and cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), respectively.

Iraqi religious leaders call for restoring religious and social cohesion


More than 40 religious leaders from Iraq gathered in Beirut, Lebanon under the auspices of the World Council of Churches for three days of constructive interfaith dialogue to identify and analyse opportunities and challenges related to cohesion and highlight the role of religious leaders in restoring inclusive multi-religious and multi-cultural communities in Iraq after years of conflict.
