Indonesia, Islam and Pluralism – Womens Voices

On 15 May 2011, The ABC Radio National Program Encounter attended a conference of Rahima, an organisation of religious progressives; they’re all about gender equality.

They’re exploring strategies to empower female ulamas, or Islamic teachers. The program goes on to examine Islam and the Constitution of Indonesia, and several speakers in the program illustrate how secularism is integrated into Islam and Indonesia, and that there is provision for pluralism within the fabric of Indonesia as a nation.
