China: Beijing starts new crackdown on party members who must choose between faith and Party

Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) – China’s ruling Communist Party has issued a revised set of regulations governing members’ behaviour, noting that the latter must give up their religious beliefs and refrain from spreading “political rumours or damage the party’s unity”.

Youth and Religious Identity: Jews and Catholics in Conversation

The European Jewish Congress (EJC), together with the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC) and the Holy See’s Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews organised a seminar titled “Youth and Religious Identity: Jews and Catholics in Conversation”, which took place between July 1-5 2018 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Catholic-Jewish emerging leadership Conference brought together 20 young activists from all over the world. The seminar set out to build cross-communal bridges between Jews and Catholics, to address current challenges facing both communities and to identify new areas of cooperation.

Bangladesh minister meets interfaith group over Rohingya

The vexed issue of how best to protect Rohingya refugees being repatriated was at the center of a meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Myanmar interfaith leaders. Nyunt Mg Shein, vice-president of Myanmar’s interfaith dialogue group, said the 90-minute Aug. 12 meeting discussed collaboration on rehabilitation and reintegration programs.

The Mormon Church Doesn’t Want To Be Called “Mormon” Anymore

In a reversal of years of branding and more than a century of colloquial use, the religion commonly known as the Mormon Church has asked that people stop using the word “Mormon” when referring to the faith.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Thursday in an update to its style guide that the nickname “Mormon” and the abbreviation “LDS” should be avoided. Instead, the church would prefer to be called “the Church,” “the Church of Jesus Christ,” or “the restored Church of Jesus Christ.”
